Amphenol and ABB alliance keeps global transportation moving

  • Global technology leaders Amphenol and ABB Installation Products to expand high-performance conduit solutions for evolving standards
  • ABB conduit systems connect and protect electrical systems that power mass transit and vehicles
  • Collaboration will drive innovation and enhance reliability across transportation, industrial and robotics applications

Connecting and protecting electrical wiring is essential to the performance and power of interconnected systems. As more applications integrate cable and conduit technology, Amphenol, a global industrial leader in connectors and specialized cable assemblies, and ABB Installation Products are working together on high-performance electrical solutions to meet the evolving needs of e-mobility, infrastructure, robotics and transportation customers.

The alliance brings together ABB and Amphenol engineers and industry specialists to expand on ABB’s existing product lines, including Harnessflex cable management solutions, PMA cable and conduit systems, and Kopex cable protection. From construction equipment and electric vehicles (EVs) to mass transit and robotics, ABB has a long history of developing cable management solutions for the most demanding environments that meet or exceed industry standards. Amphenol chose ABB to facilitate a combined offering of cable assemblies, connectors, accessories and specialized protection systems that easily integrate into high and low voltage wiring and are proven to withstand abrasion, stress, vibration, corrosive conditions and higher vehicle running temperatures.

“Many industry sectors are experiencing change and seeking trusted solutions that comply with new standards, integrate with existing systems, and help improve safety and reliability for operators and passengers,” said Matthias Heilmann, President, ABB Installation Products Division. “Working with Amphenol enables us to leverage our broad range of conduit solutions and bring new products to customers that boost reliability and performance in a dynamic market.”

ABB’s conduit technology is used in a range of applications around the world such as heavy-duty agriculture and construction equipment, electric vehicles, as well as municipal buses, lorries, trucks, trams, trains and rolling stock, and other transportation. Based on evolving requirements and sustainability objectives, ABB works with vehicle makers, transportation providers and original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) on electrical wiring solutions.

“Global transit, cargo, e-mobility and other systems are powered by data and electricity and more connected than ever. The continued evolution in EV systems and continuous operations in harsh conditions require increasingly rugged and reliable solutions,” said Martin Booker, Vice President and General Manager, Industrial Product Group, Amphenol. “Working with the ABB Installation Products team will help us address the needs of customers around the world for electrical connection and protection solutions, further enabling the electronics revolution.”
